Main Topic: Battlefield of the Mind
[Author: Tim Lucas]
In this episode, we discuss the biggest fight most of us face: The Battle for the Mind. The discussion has to start with 2 Cor 10:3-5.
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the
weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the
pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high
thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into
captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”
Notice we are dealing with 1) imaginations, 2) knowledge, 3) thoughts.
Many people say well I can’t control what I think about, but Paul says you need to take thoughts CAPTIVE. Or bring it under direct control. Many problems start in the imagination. A husband imagining his wife is being unfaithful, a church member imagining the Pastor intentionally ignored them, etc.
It has been said that every sin happens twice; once in the mind, and second outwardly. If we can cut off the sin before it gets to the outside.
The Bible says don’t even make provision for the flesh, or don’t even put yourself in situations where the fleshly lusts could be fulfilled.
So how do you control your thoughts? It is simple. It is definitely NOT easy, but it is simple. One of the principles of physics is that two objects can occupy the same space. at the same time. Our mind is the same way. You cannot have two thoughts at the same time. So what does that have to do with the war in our mind? You simply have a few “thoughts” prepared to use at a moments notice to replace ungodly thoughts. Maybe it is a particular news story, or maybe it is a verse from your morning Bible reading, but have some thoughts ready and loaded to use when you have the ungodly thoughts pop in your head.
